Collegiate Programs

All girls deserve access to the educational pathways that fit their future goals.

We provide college exploration and preparation that gives students the tools to choose the right post-secondary option for them. We provide ongoing financial, practical, educational, and social-emotional support as students navigate their post-secondary journey.

About the Program

Mentoring / Case Management

We provide individualized coaching and support for high school students as they explore and apply for college or post-secondary options, scholarships, and financial aid. Every student is different and defines their own goals and plans as they prepare for what’s next. For current college students, we provide case management and coaching about navigating college coursework, financial systems, campus life, independent living, career preparation, and understanding and applying for post-graduate study options.

College Preparation Support

In addition to individualized coaching, we provide workshops about college and post-secondary options, the college experience, standardized testing, scholarships and financial aid, the college application process, and the college decision-making process. We promote exposure and exploration through multiple in-state and out-of-state college tours each year. For students attending college and technical school, we provide summer bridge programming to prepare for the practical, financial, and educational transitions. Our network of existing college students shares their experiences with incoming college students through participation in college visits, summer bridge programming, and informal peer conversations about experiences at their colleges. College-bound students are also celebrated and financially supported through our annual “College Shower” event where we gift college students with essentials for their college journey. Through our scholarship program, high school and college students are awarded scholarships to use to reach their post-secondary goals, and have access to additional funding to close gaps not met by financial aid packages.

Scholarships

Each year, Girls Inc. of Metro Denver’s scholarship program and the Girls Inc. National Organization together award over $100,000. As participants of Girls Inc. of Metro Denver programs, girls are eligible to apply for these post-secondary scholarships starting in 8th grade. Our College Success team provides one-on-one support for girls through the application process, including essay writing support and interview practice.

Since 2005, Girls Inc. of Metro Denver’s scholarship program has awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships to support girls’ post-secondary education. The scholarship program has supported more than 120 girls to achieve not only bachelor’s and master’s degrees but also doctoral, medical, and law degrees.

Alumni Engagement

For Girls Inc. college students, and new students interested in connecting with other college students from similar experiences and backgrounds, our monthly College Womxn’s Group is a place to connect, network, learn and get information and support. This group is member-driven and the schedule and focus is set each year by participants, but is typically offered virtually to allow out-of-town or out-of-state students to join, with some in-person events during winter and summer breaks. Fun and social events, as well as guest speakers, panel discussions, and workshops, are a part of this group. Examples of topics include student loans, graduate school, scholarships, getting involved on campus, study skills, mental health, financial skills, and more.

Alumnae and college students often also engage with Girls Inc. through volunteer, internship, and career opportunities, as well as networking and connections with supporters in our sphere.

“Girls Inc has been transformative, shaping my trajectory in ways I never imagined possible. As a first-generation student navigating the journey of high school, Girls Inc. provided more than just academic support; it offered a sanctuary—a safe space where I could embrace my identity as a young woman, celebrate my strengths, and dare to dream beyond the confines of circumstance.” -Jelane
