Motherhood, Milestones, and the Mission of Girls Inc. – A Note from Kayla
October is a special month for me.
It’s when we celebrate International Day of the Girl—honoring the inherent power of girls everywhere. It’s when I mark my work anniversary at Girls Inc. of Metro Denver. And it’s when I get to celebrate the birthdays of so many loved ones—including my daughter, Kennedy.
This month, Kennedy turns two. She’s finding her voice, forming big opinions, and showing her bold, daring spirit often by challenging her big brother Teddy (3) in anything that feels like “big kid” territory. I love watching her curiosity, her kindness, and her balance of strength and sensitivity. These days, I don’t see the world only through my lens as a woman, but also through hers.
At Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, we often say that girls are born strong, smart, and bold – and that our role is to help remove the barriers in their way. That phrase carries even deeper meaning for me as Kennedy grows into herself. Like all parents, I hold both hope and worry for my children as they navigate the world, and I want them to carry themselves with confidence, courage, and compassion.
This October, I celebrate a new season – a season of growth, power, and gratitude for opportunities that shape our lives. For me, that includes celebrating three years at Girls Inc. of Metro Denver.
Happy birthday, Kennedy. You’ve only ever known life with Girls Inc., and what a wonderful place for you to know.
Stay Bold,
Kayla
“I heard a woman becomes herself for the first time she speaks without permission. Then every word out of her mouth is a riot. Say beautiful and point to the map of your body. Say brave and wear your skin like a gown. Say hero and cast yourself in the lead role. When a girl pronounces her own name there is glory. When a woman tells her own story, she lives forever.” – Denice Frohman, Poet
