Volunteer Spotlight: Stacy Ohlsson, A Lifelong Commitment to Empowering Girls

The dedication of our volunteers helps us create a space where girls can grow into strong, smart, and bold leaders — and few embody that commitment quite like Stacy Ohlsson.

Stacy’s journey with Girls Inc. began in the 1990s, long before our current building became home to so many bright and ambitious girls. After a pause to focus on work, her passion brought her back in 2011, and from that moment, her impact has spanned years of programs, field trips, and meaningful connections. After nearly a decade of volunteering, Stacy took on a new role, serving on the Girls Inc. Board. But her heart kept calling her back to where it all started — working directly with the girls.

“After 2.5 years, I missed working with the girls, so I returned to volunteering,” Stacy shared. That commitment to showing up, time and time again, reflects the power of the relationships built at Girls Inc.

When asked what draws her to the mission, Stacy highlights the thoughtful, evidence-based foundation of our programs. “The research-based programming and the comprehensive approach to teaching the girls to develop into their best selves” is what continues to inspire her involvement.

Among all her cherished memories, one summer stands out. “It’s so hard to choose a single memory, so I will go with the summer of 2019, when I was with the middle school girls from 8 to 5, one day per week. SOOO much fun! We did so many different activities and field trips!”

Whether it’s a hands-on project, an afternoon of laughter, or an eye-opening adventure around Denver, Stacy knows that every moment spent with the girls can leave a lasting impression — for both the volunteer and the girls.

For anyone thinking about getting involved, Stacy offers this encouragement: “Girls Inc volunteers experience a fun and professional environment, and get to participate in a variety of fun activities with girls, cultivating empowerment, life skills, confidence, and independence.”

We are so lucky to have Stacy as part of the Girls Inc. family — her passion and dedication help us create the kind of community where girls can thrive.

Thank you, Stacy, for the many years you’ve invested in helping girls grow strong, smart, and bold!
