At Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, we empower girls to grow up strong, smart, and bold—and Girls Inc. of Metro Denver participant, Giselle Florencio, is a shining example of what’s possible when girls are equipped with the right support, mentorship, and opportunities.

Giselle is a proud 2025 scholarship recipient who is currently pursuing their master’s degree in South Korea, becoming the first in their family to reach this academic milestone.

But Giselle’s journey didn’t begin abroad—it began right here in Denver, as a nervous high school student walking through the doors of Girls Inc. of Metro Denver (GIMD), unsure of what the future held.

“Girls Inc. helped me get out of my comfort zone,” they say.

Through GIMD’s programs, Giselle found their voice and the courage to chase ambitious goals. They credits their growth to the mentors, staff, and peers who surrounded them with encouragement and challenge. “I try because I have the confidence to,” they say. “And that confidence came from Girls Inc.”

Giselle’s journey has taken them from Denver to Japan—where they began their international studies—and now to South Korea, where they are continuing their graduate education. They say none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of her mentors at Girls Inc., their friends, and their family.

Even while abroad, Giselle remains an active part of the Girls Inc. community. They participate in GIMD’s online programs and college group, staying connected to the network that helped shape their path.

Giselle’s story is one of firsts: the first in their family to pursue a master’s degree, the first to study abroad, and one of many young womxn proving that bold dreams can lead to transformative change.

“To other girls, I want to say—take up space. Don’t be afraid to try, even if it scares you. Confidence can be built, and once you have it, there’s nothing you can’t do.”
