At Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, our volunteers are the heartbeat of our mission. They’re dedicated individuals who show up, lead with compassion, and help create a space where girls can grow into their boldest, most authentic selves. This month, we’re thrilled to highlight one of our amazing Bold Buddies: Grace Sasser, who joined our volunteer team in 2024, as part of National Volunteer Week.

When we asked Grace what part of the Girls Inc. mission resonates most with her, she didn’t hesitate to choose a word that resonates with anyone who interacts with our work. And that word is boldness.

“There are so many aspects of the Girls Inc. mission that I resonate with, but the one that sticks out to me the most is boldness,” she shared. “It’s been so refreshing to be in a space that encourages girls to trust themselves and have confidence in their endeavors.”

Boldness shows up in everything Grace does—from mentoring girls through weekly programming to jumping into unexpected moments of creativity and fun. In fact, one of Grace’s fondest memories captures the joy and spontaneity of our community.

“A few weeks back, two of the girls wanted to start a dance club to learn new TikTok dances. They had created a sign-up poster and were struggling to get others to participate, so I signed up to help spur the momentum,” she tells us. “Within a few minutes they had all five spots filled and before I knew it, it was time to start learning my first TikTok dance.”

And while Grace humbly admits she “bowed out pretty quickly” due to her self-proclaimed lack of dance skills, she was in awe of the girls’ creativity and confidence.

“The best part was seeing how good they were at it and their creativity to improvise and choreograph. It was hilarious, heartwarming, and inspiring all at once.”

For Grace, volunteering at GIMD has been just as impactful for her as it is for the girls she mentors.

“GIMD is an incredible place—the staff and volunteers are all so dedicated to the mission and embody the values every day. I often leave my weekly shift feeling like the girls had a larger impact on me than vice versa and my cup overflowing.”
